Decide in advance what activities are most likely to interest you.
Show respect for local people and their property.
Help care for the environment: leave the places you visit at least as clean and tidy as you found them. Use the litter and recycling bins.
Do nothing that might harm the flora, fauna and environment. Do not collect live or dead animals or plants.
Take care not to damage natural and archaeological heritage spots such as caves and prehistoric sites.
Camp only in the areas set aside for that purpose.
Leave your car behind: use public transport. Walking and cycling are good alternatives. Bikes can be carried free of charge on trains and many buses. If you do take your car, keep to a moderate speed and give way to pedestrians and cyclists. Always maintain a safe distance of 1.5 m when overtaking them.
On the beaches, follow the advice of the lifeguards and obey the warning flags.
When walking in the hills, keep to the marked routes and carry a bag for your litter. Do not leave cattle gates open. In areas with cattle, keep your dog on a lead.
The best times for bird-watching are dawn and dusk. Carry binoculars, wear unobtrusive clothing and keep quiet: this will enable everyone to obtain maximum enjoyment.
If you take to the river, do not frighten the birds. Remain within the speed limits and sail always along the centre of the waterways.
