Bilbao has many and varied areas of interest.
El Arenal promenade and the Old Town/Casco Viejo, with the San Nicolás church, the Santiago cathedral, the San Antón bridge and church featured on the city´s coat-of-arms, or the Ribera market, all well worth a visit. Or you can simply take a stroll through the narrow streets steeped in charm and history, or relax outside one of the bars in Plaza Nueva.
Gran Vía and the Ensanche district. A stroll around this area takes you past emblematic buildings such as La Bilbaína, the old Banco de Bilbao, the Diputación building, the Chávarri Palace in Plaza Moyua, the Sota Building, or the Palacio Ibaigane, the Albia Gardens, up to Parque de Doña Casilda, built after the French style between 1912 and 1920, and now the location for the Fine Arts Museum.
Abandoibarra and the waterfront. Ideal for a riverside stroll. On the right bank we find Bilbao Town Hall, and the Olabarri Palace at the end of Campo Volantín. Crossing to the other side of the river over Santiago Calatrava´s Zubi Zuri bridge we find ongoing construction work on the Izozaki Towers, the Guggenheim Museum, and the Paseo de la Memoria promenade with its sculptures. The Pedro Arrupe pedestrian bridge takes us to Deusto University and from there to Deusto Bridge, which formerly opened up to let ships through. We continue along the waterfront to the Euskalduna Music and Conference Centre and the Maritime Museum.
